Cool Summer Festival 2012!
Friday, 02 December 2011 09:28
Hello friends!! Did you think we had forgotten you?

For CSF 2011, Mother Nature gave us the most ferocious winds and greatest single night of rainfall Hotham has experienced in February since 1947* – turns out we forgot to put the request for kite flying weather in writing! Don’t worry, this time we have sent her a text and feel pretty confident we won’t get another storm like that on a CSF weekend until 2073. And this year, we learnt our lesson and our wild weather contingency plan is in place... buy a pallet of ponchos! (Joking. We’d buy gumboots too of course.)

For those of you who braved the storm last year, you will know that we lost the main stage and all our audio and lighting (and all our beautiful decorations!) but the show still went on and the atmosphere was amazing. It was perhaps the best ‘vibe’ we have had so far as everyone just relaxed and went with the flow. So first of all.... a massive thank you to everyone who came last year despite the torrential rains. A gigantic thank you as well to the boys at The General Store who let us hold the whole festival in the pub for the weekend. It was squashy but we still partied like it was 1999!

So this year things got off to a bit of a rocky start and we weren’t sure if we were going to have to take a break for a year. But we decided we couldn’t bear to do that as CSF is clearly the BEST weekend of the year so we appealed to the community and the community provided! So now we have a much bigger crew and a few more cooks stirring the pot (the Genny boys got so excited last year, they have officially joined the crew this year, as have our friends at Jack Frost) and the result is that Cool Summer Festival 2012 is going to ROCK LIKE IT AIN’T NEVER ROCKED BEFORE! As you might be gathering, we are pretty pumped.

We have some exciting news this year... for the first time in CSF history, we will have accommodation options for everyone from nature lovers to honeymooners. Eh? CAMPING!!

In a Hotham first, we will have a festival campsite at Whiskey Flat for the weekend. For those who frequent the place in winter, you will know that Whiskey Flat is a fabulous large expanse of flat grass a couple of km’s down the hill from the village. And yep, we’ll be providing busses to get to and fro over the weekend. And dunnies. And a circle in the middle to sing Kumbaya.

The lodges will be available for mid level accom as per every other year in case you have small kiddies or desperately need a socket for a hairdryer... and if you were hoping to get a bit ‘bow chicka bow wow’ with a spa and leopard skin patterned sheets, have we got the place for you!! Yep, we even have pimping apartments if that’s your cup of tea.

As always, it’s BYO (and as usual, no glass except wine bottles please peeps). Kids 16 and under are still free. There will be food and market stalls galore. The chair lift will be running on the Big D. The main stage will be on the Big D and the night stage at the Genny.

If that doesn’t get you excited... we will also be offering helicopter rides, mountain biking and horse riding right from the festival sight! We told ya this year was gunna ROCK OUT!

So to music news... we are pretty excited about the lineup this year – but we can’t tell you yet as we’d have to kill you and killing our whole festival database would make for a grim weekend come the 17th Feb... but as you know, the music is ALWAYS good at Cool Summer and this year it will be the best yet with one very exciting headliner gearing up to blow your minds. To give you a taster... if you love the thought of a recorder dualing with a triangle, backed by a very small choir and a fair bit of whistling, you’ll be in heaven with this.**

Tickets will be on sale in around 28 million seconds***... we’ll keep you posted. Be warned, this year we are capping numbers so if you want to come, and you want your friends to come, and their friends to come, get those credit cards ready and keep your eyes on the website. And while you’re at it, join our Facebook page.

Once again, we are offering local businesses the chance to become a friend of the festival (FOTF)... click here for details if you want to get on board.... and for all you Mums and Dads, bring the kids. Apart from the fact that they are FREE, there will be lots of fun things for them to do this year including workshops and cardboard box olympics and we might even be able to rustle up some childcare. Keep your eyes on the website for details.

So friends... here’s to Cool Summer Festival 2012! The countdown is on. Get onboard with the highest independent festival in Australia and spread the love.
